Consultation launched to classify & measure the creative industries

DCMS1The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has today launched a consultation aimed at redefining the creative industries. Evidence gathered through the consultation will inform the DCMS’s review of what falls inside the creative industries. This could have a significant impact on future policy initiatives for the sector. The consultation is running for two months, and we would encourage all of our stakeholders, including trade organisations, employers, arts organisations and others to submit your thoughts to the review.

“Classifying and Measuring the Creative Industries”, a paper published by Creative & Cultural Skills in partnership with Creative Skillset, Nesta and the DCMS, has contributed to the research and development behind the consultation. The paper can be found here: Measuring the Creative Industries – A Discussion (pdf). Dr David Parker, Director of Research at Creative & Cultural Skills, commented on the consultation, saying: “The DCMS’s review of the creative industries is a welcome step, and one that we are pleased to have been involved with from the beginning. A detailed understanding of the creative sector could help to boost investment, and could lead to stronger policy interventions in the future.”
