AD:uk Eastern Region meeting: Tuesday 11th Dec

After an extraordinary year for the arts in the East we are resurfacing from our 2012 projects and looking at a different future for our sector – Arts Council England has published its new structure and operating model; the role of culture in education is uncertain and changes to public health delivery are moving apace.

It is a good time to reconnect with AD:uk members in the East and explore the future together and we invite you to join us for a pre-Christmas Regional Meeting and Study visit at firstsite in Colchester – Tuesday 11 December (10.30am for 11am start through to 3pm). A tour of firstsite will be in the afternoon, with presentations and breakouts in the morning.

AD:uk’s recent national conference – Negotiating the New Arts Landscape – explored key issues for the arts within changes and developments to political and economic picture. We will report back on the conference for those members who couldn’t attend, and continue the dialogue started at Conference, at the Regional Meeting. Conference presentations and reports are now available on the website: http://artsdevelopmentuk.org/aduk-conference-2012-reports/

Firstsite has invested its future in Matthew Rowe, who has been announced as its new Artistic Director. Our Study Visit will include a tour of firstsite, the purpose built visual arts building in the heart of Colchester.

We are planning to hold two breakout discussions at the meeting looking at Digital Arts and Advocacy for the arts (who do we need to advocate to in the future?). If you are interested in facilitating these breakouts (which will earn you Fellowship credits), please let us know.

The full agenda of the Regional Meeting including presentations and speakers will be sent out soon. Lunch (and mince pies) will be provided.

We’re ending the day earlier than usual at 3pm to encourage members to take advantage of the Skills and Knowledge Bank. Take a look at what skills and knowledge have been deposited in the bank and then make an arrangement to ‘withdraw’ information from a participating member.

We hope to have a date for the next Regional Meeting confirmed this week. It will be in late Feb / early March at Arts Council East’s office in Cambridgeshire.

Please read on for an update on the Skills Bank in the East region and other ways you could earn some last minute credits towards your AD:uk Fellowship.

Please RSVP for the Meeting and Study Visit by Monday 26 November to Roxie Curry, stating any access needs or dietary requirements to: Roxie.Curry@Rochford.gov.uk.
