New Talent from Pontypridd: Ladies Love a Superhero

Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council’s SONIG Youth Music Industry programme, funded by Fframwaith (the Children and Young People’s Partnership in RCT), have been working with the band Ladies Love a Superhero to nurture their talent and develop their creative industries skills.  Pontypridd’s new bright young things, Ladies Love a Superhero, are currently riding high on a wave of admiration, following their entry into this years ‘Support Mcfly’ UK Tour competition.

One major project that played a part in their development was the Make It Media Project, part funded by 14-19 Learning Pathways and Building the Future Together, is part financed by the Convergence European Social Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government and aims to improve the life chances and career opportunities of many thousands of young people in Rhondda Cynon Taf.  The Make It Media Project enabled them to work with media students and film professionals to create a music video.  This can be viewed at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F088gln8SbI .  In the past few weeks, this video has had over 10,000 hits!!

The likeable pop-punk band, all 19 years old, have been together for nearly 4 years.  They have been gaining further experience whilst raising awareness of the creative industries via performances throughout secondary schools in RCT as the SONIG 2011 flagship band performing as part of the SONIG Roadshow, delivered in partnership with Careers Wales’ Education Business Partnership programme.

With stiff competition from over 100 emerging bands across the UK, Ladies Love a Superhero are currently placed in the top 4 of the voting system, collecting over 2000 votes. If successful, Ladies Love a Superhero will be hand-picked by fellow pop-punk heroes, Mcfly and will perform alongside them on their eagerly awaited March-April 2012 UK tour.  You can vote for Ladies Love a Superhero to support Mcfly by visiting Mcfly’s website : www.mcfly.com

We are currently recruiting for Make It 2012 – continuing to raise awareness of and support the development of the creative industries in RCT, and nurturing the creative talents of our young people through high-quality, exciting arts provision!  If you are from RCT and interested in applying, or if you’d like further information, contact the RCT Arts Development Team on 01443 490258.
