EPIC Awards deadline extended

There is still time for amateur arts and crafts groups to enter the UK-wide Epic Awards 2011 as the deadline for entries has been extended to 30th November 2011. The Epic Awards are designed to showcase all that is great about amateur art and craft – whether that’s people mastering the intricacies of an art form passed down through the generations, or groups working with others in the community to develop new ways of creatively tackling social problems. It’s quick and easy for groups to enter by going to www.epicawards.co.uk

There is a package of prizes on offer including cash, vouchers, training and mentoring. Arts Development UK is also offering a complementary membership for each of the winning organisations. Winning groups will also be invited to a prestigious ceremony to be presented with their awards. Last year’s winners received their awards from two government ministers at the House of Lords.

A huge bonus of winning an Epic Award is the way it raises the profile of groups and enables them to shine more brightly on funding applications. One of last year’s winners, Annour Kassim, spoke about the way Milton Keynes Islamic Arts Heritage and Culture Organisation had benefitted from high-profile exposure: “It was a privilege to be involved, not just because we won a prize, but an endorsement for our art project. When we first started our project with the college we never thought it would lead to this national award!”
