CASE Local Culture and Heritage Profiles

The new CASE Local Culture & Heritage Profile Tool is a quick and easy way to get hold of a range of data useful to anyone working in local cultural and heritage-related policy making. Building upon the success of Sport England’s Local Sport Profile Tool, the Culture and Heritage Tool is a free resource that presents a wide range of data from the Culture and Sport Evidence programme in the form of a dynamic and accessible Excel spreadsheet.

The tool contains data about the demographic nature and physical geography of an area, alongside analysis of its economic performance and financial investment, and statistics about its cultural participation, satisfaction levels and the quality of current facilities.

At the click of a button all of the data can be presented for a specific local authority, county council or Local Enterprise Partnership area. For many of the statistics, the tool compares the data from local authorities with the regional and national average allowing local policy makers to benchmark their local authority.

The sophisticated method the tool uses to calculate the nearest neighbour comparisons means that local authorities are not simply matched to geographical neighbours or authorities of a similar size but those with similar circumstances and economic profiles.

Richard Russell, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Arts Council England says “As we begin to better understand data, and how we can use it to inform policy and decision-making, this profile tool should quickly become a key part of every local authority’s performance management system.”
